Knights
Here, German speakers will find teaching materials concerning the topic ‘knights’. The units for history lessons, designed by researchers in close collaboration with teachers, examine the military significance of the knight on the, as well as the virtues he embodied. At the same time, historical facts and contexts about the Middle Ages that the curriculum prescribes for grades 7 and 8 can be taught, and the construction and idealization of heroic figures can be addressed as well. The unit is suitable to sensitize students in history classes to the processes of heroization and to help them to critically engage with ideas of heroism.
Please note that the Knights’ Game (‘Ritterspiel’) is also available in English and French, to be used in Content and Language Integrated Learning.
